Fairlop Brass Band Social Media Policy


This Social Media Policy is designed to ensure Fairlop Brass Band maintains a positive reputation, protects its members, and engages effectively with the community. This policy applies to all band members.


1. Purpose and Scope


  • Purpose: The aim of this policy is to encourage positive promotion of the band, engage our audience, and share our love of brass band music responsibly while establishing a framework of good practice.


  • Scope: This policy applies to all social media platforms (Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and messaging apps such as WhatsApp) used for band business or where members identify themselves as part of the band.


2. Official Band Accounts & Authorised Users


  • Only the designated members below are permitted to post on behalf of the Fairlop Brass Band official accounts:

  • Kevin Jordan    
  • Rachel Carter
  • Andy Carter
  • Sarah Rogers
  • Alan Rogers


  • Official accounts should be used for publishing concerts, rehearsals, player vacancies, and band news.


  • Passwords for official accounts must be kept securely and shared with only those named above.


  • Content should be professional, accurate, and aligned with the band’s image and values.


  • All official social media accounts, pages, and content created for Fairlop Brass Band remain the property of the band.



3. Guidelines for all members of Fairlop Brass Band (Personal and Official use)


  • Be a Band Ambassador: Reflect the values of Fairlop Brass Band in all posts – be respectful, encouraging, and enthusiastic. Ensure posts reflect positively on the band, its supporters, and other bands.

  • Pause Before Posting: Consider that online posts are public, permanent, and searchable.

  • Respect Privacy: Do not share private contact details, address details, or confidential information about members, finances, or internal band discussions.

  • Non-Discriminatory: Do not post content that is offensive, defamatory, discriminatory, or harassing toward any individual or group.


4. Photographic and Video Content


  • Consent: Obtain permission before posting, tagging, or sharing images of individuals, especially close-up shots of members.

  • Photo and video consent for all band members will be held as part of the band’s mandatory records. Should a band member wish to withdraw their consent, it is their responsibility to notify the Band Safeguarding Officers.

  • Safeguarding Children: Explicit parental/guardian consent MUST be obtained before publishing images of children under 18.

  • Contests/Venues: Adhere to contest and venue rules regarding photography and recording.

  • Reporting: If a member asks for a photo or post to be removed, it must be removed immediately.


5. Content Restrictions


  • No Disparaging Comments: Do not make, support, or share negative comments about other bands, adjudicators, or band members.

  • No Political or Religious Views: Official band accounts should not share views on divisive topics such as politics or religion.

  • No Illegal Content: Do not post or link to illegal, hateful, or inappropriate content.


6. Safeguarding


  • Adult members should not engage in private, one-to-one messaging with members under 18 via social media.

  • Band communications with minors should take place via parents/guardians.

  • Any concerns about safeguarding must be reported immediately to the Band Safeguarding Officers:

7. Handling Negativity


  • Members should avoid engaging in arguments or disputes online relating to the band. Instead, report the matter to the Musical Director: Kevin Jordan.


8. Breach of Policy:


  • Failure to comply with this policy may result in the removal of the content.
